Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Smartnox collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you use the Smartnox website and application. Smartnox helps users review their YouTube subscriptions, organize playlists inside Smartnox, and generate YouTube-viewable playlist links using Google OAuth and YouTube API Services.

1. Google User Data Accessed

When you sign in with Google and authorize Smartnox, Smartnox requests the following Google OAuth scopes: openid, email, profile, and https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.readonly. These scopes allow Smartnox to access, collect, or interact with the following Google user data:

  • Google identity data: your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and profile information provided during Google sign-in.
  • Google OAuth authorization data: granted scopes, access tokens, refresh tokens, token expiration times, and authorization error details needed to keep your account connected and to know when reauthorization is required.
  • YouTube subscription data: the list of channels your YouTube account is subscribed to, including subscription identifiers and the channel identifiers returned by YouTube API Services.
  • YouTube channel metadata: channel titles, descriptions, thumbnails, YouTube channel IDs, and upload playlist IDs for channels you import, manually follow, or use in Smartnox playlist workflows.
  • YouTube video metadata for selected or tracked channels: video IDs, titles, publish dates, thumbnails, duration data, channel IDs, channel titles, and related metadata returned by YouTube API Services.
  • YouTube transcript text when you choose to use Smartnox AI notes or summary features for a video and a transcript is available.

Smartnox uses the YouTube Data API with read-only access. Smartnox does not request permission to manage your Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, contacts, or other Google Workspace content.

2. Other Information We Collect

We also collect the following categories of information when you use Smartnox:

  • Workspace and account data needed to operate Smartnox, including tracked channels, category assignments, playlist history, billing access state, saved videos, tags, notes, watch state, scheduled playlist settings, and connected account metadata.
  • Files you choose to import into the app for restoring prior Smartnox exports.

3. How We Use Google User Data and Other Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Authenticate you with Google.
  • Read your YouTube subscriptions and related channel information.
  • Import subscribed channels into your Smartnox workspace.
  • Refresh channel and video metadata for channels you track.
  • Organize playlists and viewing workflows inside Smartnox.
  • Generate playlist links you can open on YouTube across devices.
  • Fetch transcript text and send the transcript, video title, channel title, publish date, and video description to Google Gemini only when you request an AI summary or ask a question about a video.
  • Persist your Smartnox workspace and preferences across sessions.
  • Allow you to export and import Smartnox data under your control.
  • Maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the service.

Smartnox does not use Google user data to train, improve, or develop generalized AI or machine learning models.

Smartnox's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. Where Data Is Stored

Smartnox stores workspace and account data in its server-side application database so your tracked channels, category assignments, playlist history, saved videos, tags, notes, watch state, scheduled playlist settings, and access state persist across sessions and devices. Smartnox also stores connected account metadata needed to support Google sign-in, YouTube actions, billing access, operations, and auditability.

OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored in encrypted form on Smartnox servers. Smartnox stores YouTube channel and video metadata in application tables and cache tables so the app can reduce repeated YouTube API requests, preserve playlist history, and keep your workspace usable across sessions.

Your use of Google OAuth and YouTube API Services is also subject to the Google Privacy Policy. Information you create in YouTube, such as items you watch or save separately in YouTube, is stored by Google within your Google account.

5. Sharing of Information

Smartnox does not sell your personal information.

We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • With Google and YouTube as necessary to provide the requested sign-in, YouTube API, transcript, and Gemini AI functionality.
  • With service providers or infrastructure providers if needed to host or secure the website.
  • When required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
  • To protect the rights, safety, and security of Smartnox, its users, or the public.

Smartnox does not transfer Google user data to third parties for advertising, sale, resale, or unrelated analytics.

Smartnox personnel do not read Google user data except when necessary to provide support you request, investigate security or abuse issues, comply with law, or operate and debug the service.

6. Data Retention

Smartnox retains account and workspace data for as long as needed to operate the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. This includes stored Google connected account metadata, encrypted OAuth tokens, imported YouTube subscription channel records, channel and video metadata, notes, tags, watch state, playlist history, and scheduled playlist settings.

Cached YouTube channel and video metadata may remain in Smartnox cache tables after it is first fetched so Smartnox can preserve workspace history, reduce YouTube API usage, and troubleshoot service behavior. You can revoke Smartnox access from your Google account settings at any time.

7. Your Choices

  • You may stop using Smartnox at any time.
  • You may revoke Google OAuth access in your Google account permissions settings.
  • You may export or import Smartnox workspace data through the app's JSON snapshot controls.
  • You may contact us to request deletion of your Smartnox account data, including stored Google connected account metadata and user-specific workspace data held by Smartnox.

8. Security

We use reasonable measures designed to protect the service, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your device and Google account secure.

9. Children's Privacy

Smartnox is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Third-Party Services

Smartnox relies on Google OAuth, YouTube API Services, YouTube platform functionality, transcript retrieval, Google Gemini, hosting infrastructure, and payment or email providers used to operate the service. Your use of Google and YouTube services remains subject to the applicable Google and YouTube terms, and the Google Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date above.
